Students from Green Island High School show off
their certificates.
LUCEA, Hanover -
Hanover's highly successful Youth Transformation
programme, which continues to train hundreds of youths in the
parish for the job market, recently graduated just over 100 students
from two high schools with certificates of participation in the
'Principles and Practice of Positive Attitudes and Good Work Ethics'.
The training and development programme, administered
by social worker Archibald Edwards, developed the two-week home
study programme from a special manual called the 'Obama Inspiration'
with the motto: 'I can achieve' which promotes positive attitudes
and strong core values for a rewarding career.
The subjects included positive mental attitudes,
self- esteem, time management, personal responsibility and initiative,
stress management, listening skills, interpersonal skills, team
building, setting and achieving goals and the discipline of hard
work.
The students from Green Island and Merlene Ottey
High Schools lauded the training programme and spoke highly of
its effectiveness, adding that the pilot project, which Edwards
said is to be replicated in other schools, gave them inspiration
to be more positive and focused.
"It helped me to develop a passion to excel
academically and inspired me to achieve my career goals,"
said Rhadecia Bauldie of Green Island High.
Added Sabrina Quarrie, head girl of Green Island:
"It helped me to be more organised and to manage my time
better." - Keril Wright
